What is Sujok Therapy?
Sujok is a Korean healing method whose name says exactly what it does: su means hand and jok means foot. Developed by Professor Park Jae Woo, it is based on a simple, elegant idea — the hand and foot are miniature mirrors of the entire body. The thumb corresponds to the head, the palm to the torso, the fingers to the limbs, and so on for every organ and joint.
Because of this, your therapist can treat a painful knee, a tense stomach, or a heavy head without touching those areas at all. Everything happens on the hands and feet, using nothing more than focused pressure and a few simple natural tools.
How it works
When something in the body is out of balance, its correspondence point on the hand or foot becomes noticeably tender. Your therapist uses this tenderness as a guide, locating the active points and stimulating them with a blunt probe, fingertip pressure, or massage rings. That stimulation sends a calming, regulating signal through the nervous system to the related area — easing pain, improving local circulation, and supporting the body's own healing response.
Sujok also draws on the same energy principles as acupuncture and acupressure, so sessions aim to restore smooth energy flow as well as physical comfort.
What a session feels like
A Sujok session is quiet and surprisingly relaxing. You sit comfortably while the therapist examines your hands, presses to find the sensitive points, and works each one with short, steady stimulation. To carry the effect home, tiny seeds or magnets may be taped over the key points — a hallmark of Sujok you can safely leave in place for hours. Many people notice relief in the very first session, with deeper, steadier change building over a short course of visits.
What a session looks like
- 1
Mapping your condition to the hand
Your therapist uses the Sujok correspondence system — in which the hand and foot mirror the whole body — to find the exact points that relate to the area needing care.
- 2
Testing for sensitive points
A blunt probe or fingertip is pressed gently over the mapped area. A point that feels distinctly tender confirms it corresponds to the affected part of the body.
- 3
Stimulating the points
Each active point is stimulated with steady massaging pressure. The sensation is brief and very manageable, and many people feel the related area ease almost immediately.
- 4
Extending the effect
Small natural seeds, magnets, or micro-massage rings may be fixed over the points so the gentle stimulation continues between sessions.
Sujok Therapy — common questions
How can pressing points on my hand help my back or stomach?+−
Sujok is built on a correspondence system: every part of the body has a matching miniature point on the hand and foot. Stimulating that point sends a signal through the nervous system that helps relax and rebalance the related area.
Does Sujok Therapy hurt?+−
The right point often feels momentarily tender when first pressed — that is how the therapist confirms it — but the stimulation itself is gentle, brief, and well tolerated even by children.
What are the seeds sometimes taped to the hand?+−
Seed therapy is a classic Sujok method. Small natural seeds are fixed over active points after the session so they keep providing mild pressure for several hours, extending the benefit between visits.
