Understanding frozen fingers
Finger joints are small and precise, and they depend on smooth gliding between bone, tendon, and the soft tissue that wraps them. When that tissue thickens or the tendons stop sliding freely — often after overuse, long hours of gripping, or simply with age and cold — the fingers begin to feel tight, achy, and reluctant to bend. Mornings are usually the worst, and over time people start avoiding the movements that hurt, which only lets the stiffness settle in deeper.
The encouraging news is that stiff fingers usually respond well to steady, gentle movement. The joints want to move; they just need help finding their range again.
How our therapies help
Our care plan combines two hands-on approaches that work directly on joint movement. Manual Mobilization & Joint Manipulation uses slow, controlled glides of each finger joint to stretch tight tissue and restore the natural sliding motion, one small increment at a time. NAG SNAG Therapy adds sustained, movement-assisted mobilization — the therapist supports the joint while you actively bend the finger, which retrains comfortable movement rather than forcing it.
Sessions are calm and unhurried. Over the course of treatment, most people find their morning stiffness shortens, their fist closes further, and everyday tasks — buttons, jars, writing — stop being a negotiation. Between visits, the simple warm-water soaks and gentle range-of-motion practice in your home-care plan help hold each session's gains.
Questions we are asked
How many sessions will I need before my fingers feel looser?+−
Most people need 6–10 sessions. Many notice easier movement within the first few visits, though stiffness that has built up over months usually takes the full course to release.
Is the mobilization painful?+−
No. The joints are moved gently and gradually, always within your comfort. You may feel a mild stretch during and slight tenderness after early sessions, which settles quickly.
When should I see a doctor instead?+−
If a finger is locked and cannot be straightened, if there is sudden swelling, redness, or fever, or if numbness spreads up the hand, please have a medical evaluation first. Our care works well alongside medical treatment.
